ABOUT

PBC is a program that provides spiritual guidance, mentorship, and support to underserved youth in Baltimore-Washington communities through the game of basketball. PBC seeks to create a space that provides personal and spiritual development for youth. Through mentorship and coaching, PBC fosters healthy relationships and builds community, empowering youth and building confidence in an environment free of the daily pressures and dangers that often plague the lives of youth and promote at-risk behavior.

Through daily devotions, reflections, and discussion, Pivot campers are given the opportunity to explore their personal faith and growth journeys. In addition, campers have an opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge, passion, and respect for the game of basketball, and all that the sport has to teach them about life: competition, perseverance, teamwork, and leadership.

Campers participate in daily conditioning, ball-handling, shooting, and defensive drills, as well as compete in 1-on-1, 3-on-3, and 5-on-5 tournaments throughout the week; while champions and an MVP are crowned at the end of the session, Pivot campers will take with them friendships and support systems that last forever.

HISTORY

In 1999, faith-based community leaders Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Daniels, Jr. and Rev. Timothy B. Warner founded Pivot (then called “Jesus Jam Basketball Camp”) in order to provide spiritual guidance, mentorship, and support to underserved youth in Baltimore-Washington communities; using the game of basketball as a relatable medium, the camp would provide a platform to help guide the personal and spiritual development of the region’s youth. Nearly two decades later, now led by the founders’ daughters, directors Joia Daniels, Jordan Warner, and Kristin Kelly have re-established Pivot as a premiere, formative summer opportunity for youth in the DC-Metropolitan area.

WEST RIVER RETREAT CENTER

Pivot Basketball Camp partners with West River Retreat Center to provide a dynamic sleepaway camp experience.

West River Retreat Center offers day camps and week-long residential Christian camps that have the perfect balance of fun, friends, and faith. The goal is for campers to learn something meaningful about themselves and feel the love and support of the community around them.

At Pivot Basketball Camp, campers participate in daily conditioning, ball-handling, shooting, and defensive drills, as well as compete in 1-on-1, 3-on-3, and 5-on-5 tournaments at a local gym. Upon return to the West River Campus, campers have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities: zip-lining, tubing, arts and crafts, swimming, archery, rock climbing, and much more!
